Burnham were hoping to average their close cup loss from season by beating Braintree, unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

Braintree took an early lead despite a determined effort from Burnham to hold them back. Some unfortunate decisions went against Burnham which allowed the hosts to score two tries in the first half although the failed to convert both.

Half time score 10-0

The second half saw Burnham struggling to find their flow despite some strong attacks from Mason and Tommy S. once again the decisions didn’t go Burnham’s way and Braintree scored another try as a result. The resulting conversion took the score to 17-0.

Burnham continued to work hard and gained ground pushing the host back into their own 22. Braintree had possession but with a sloppy pass saw the ball go forward. Harry T quickly took the advantage, picked up the ball and dashed to the try line to score for Burnham. The old mantra of “play to the whistle” certainly paid off.
Tommy H took the conversion which unfortunately didn’t increase the score.

For the remainder of the second half, both teams seems fairly evenly matched and Burnham worked hard to try to reduce the deficit. Braintree however were lucky and found a gap to score another try. The conversion taking the final score to 24-5.

The score doesn’t reflect the effort the boys put in. If some of the decisions hadn’t gone against them, it would have been a different result.
