Burnham U9s Shine in the Sun

Burnham U9s Shine in the Sun

Greg Mann3 Mar - 21:50

Short-handed but full of heart, Burnham U9s show spirit in Rochford showdown.

A last-minute setback saw Burnham reduced to just five players for their home fixture against Rochford, with Albie and Josh forced to pull out and Harry already unavailable. However, in the true spirit of our beautiful game, Rochford stepped up to loan players, ensuring a competitive and meaningful contest.

With the sun finally making a welcome appearance, Burnham took to their warm-up with energy and enthusiasm, setting the tone for a fantastic morning of rugby. Rochford, as always, arrived with a well-drilled and talented squad, and the three-match series that followed was a testament to both teams’ skill and sportsmanship.

Burnham wasted no time, hitting their stride and producing an impressive display of running rugby and tenacious tackling. Slick passing moves stretched both defences, with Burnham showing great progress in getting the ball wide to their wingers.

A standout performance came from Billy, making his debut as scrum half. His natural game awareness allowed him to dictate Burnham’s attacking play, proving instrumental in linking up the team’s attacking efforts. The role suited him perfectly, giving him the opportunity to showcase his vision and decision-making in a more influential role. It was no surprise when he was named Player of the Week. Great work Billy!

With huge improvements in teamwork and attacking structure, Burnham’s U9s are shaping up for an exciting end to the season. If this performance is anything to go by, there’s plenty more thrilling rugby to come.
