U9s put on defensive masterclass in close match with local rivals.

Fresh from last week’s inspiring visit to Twickenham, the U9s once again showed why they are such a promising young team during Sunday morning’s match against South Woodham. It was a closely contested game, marked by determined effort and flashes of brilliance, with both sides battling fiercely for the upper hand. While handling errors occasionally disrupted the flow, the U9s’ tenacious defensive display ensured South Woodham struggled to break through their resolute defensive line.

Billy demonstrated incredible awareness, always positioning himself perfectly to support the team. Amelia showcased her growing confidence, flying into tackles that kept the opposition at bay, and posing a constant threat with her speedy running. George and Henry linked up well again working tirelessly in defence, combining impeccable technique with relentless effort to stop South Woodham’s advances. Harry, meanwhile, made a series of powerful runs, breaking through the opposition’s line and driving the team forward. Josh was a livewire throughout, bringing energy and determination to every tackle he made. Albie was sidelined due to injury, but his appearance before the game in full kit to support his team mates highlighted the team’s strong bond and spirit.

The coaches were unanimous in deciding Player of the match was Thomas, who rose to the occasion against familiar faces from his school in the opposition lineup. His electric running and determined tackling pinned back South Woodham and drove Burnham forward, his fitness and work rate kept the team’s momentum high from start to finish.

While the match was evenly balanced, the U9s’ collective grit and teamwork stood out. A superb all-around effort ensured a strong performance of which they can be proud.
